Smart Car Shopping: Great Car Deals This Week

Before you go out car shopping this weekend, there are two things you need to know. One is that you might want to wait a few days.  Our partners at TrueCar.com, the car pricing experts, tell us that the cheapest day to buy this month will be Wednesday, July 28.   You'll often get the best deals on a Saturday, but with the end of a slow sales month...

Smart Car Shopping: Great Car Deals This Week

If you're going out car shopping this weekend, you should know that automakers aren't discounting cars the way they did just a few months ago. As Toyota fought to recover its reputation amidst allegations of unintended acceleration in the spring, it launched a round of heavy discounts.  That kicked off a price war.  Historically, heavy discounts...

Secret Shoppers Give Mercedes-Benz Top Marks For Customer Experience

UPDATED: Pied Piper's Fran O'Hagan sent in some additional comments about this study. See below. If you've ever had the pleasure of working in retail or the service industry, you already know how much fun secret shoppers can be. (For the rest of you: not very.) Over the past four years, the folks at America's auto dealerships gotten in on the...

Driven: 2010 Mazda Mazdaspeed3 Sport

Hot hatches are a sore spot for American connoisseurs. The Europeans and Japanese always seem to get the best ones, while we're stuck with inferior models. Not so with the Mazdaspeed3. Sure, it's no Ford Focus RS, much less the RS500, but it's a 263-horsepower, 280 pound-foot, turbocharged, front-driving monster. Except it's not quite so monstrous...

How many hours per year do you spend stuck in traffic?

We’ve all been there: Hoping to get to work on time! Hoping to get home to dinner! Hoping we don’t run out of gas before the next exit.

For many commuters, it’s a daily ritual - the all American traffic jam.

I personally believe this phenomenon was invented in Boston. After all, the Pilgrims did land in Massachusetts first. But, Boston has fallen behind the times and sadly can only claim a ranking of 12th in the nation among the worst commuting metropolitan areas in recent ti… Continue

AAA Offers Interactive Programs to Help Parents Improve Their Teenagers’ Driving

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the per–mile fatality rate for 16–year–olds is approximately 10 times that of adults. Why are teens so accident prone? AAA cites the following reasons:

• New drivers learn both good and bad driving habits mostly through experience.
• Novice drivers are less likely to stay focused, scan their surroundings effectively, identify potential hazards early, and make tough decisions quickly.
• Teen drivers perceive less risk in… Continue

Look Out World! The Groomers are Driving on Your Highways!

One-in-six Americans (16%) have combed their hair or applied makeup while driving, according to a Social & Demographic Trends survey by Pew Research Center. And those are only the ones who admit it!

We’ve all seen those “smart” commuters who try to save time by shaving, brushing their teeth or flossing, removing or altering contact lenses, or putting on jewelry – while on the way to work.

But, just when you think you’ve heard or seen it all, you haven’t.

Do You Eat While You Drive? Forget Cholesterol! Another Reason Why Burgers May Be Killing You!

Raise your hands now and tell the truth! Who doesn’t eat while driving! But, experts say eating while driving can be hazardous to your health – a recipe for disaster!

According to a 2006 study recently released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, 80% of crashes and 65% of near-crashes involve some form of driver distraction within three seconds before the crash.

Surprising Ways to "Go Green," even before you buy your first hybrid.

If you don’t have a hybrid on your shopping list, there are still many cheap and easy ways to Green Your Car:

1. If you have a roof rack you never use, remove it. One consumer compared the gas mileage of his car at 54.7 mph (88 kph) with 1) no roof racks, 2) an empty roof rack, and 3) a mountain bike on the roof rack.

He found that compared to the baseline of no roof rack, the empty rack reduced his MPG by -12.… Continue

Should cell phone usage or texting be a moving violation?

Feelings run high when it comes to the issue of cell phone use and texting while driving. Everyone has an opinion, but we may be light years away from any consensus!

Even the celebrities can’t agree. Oprah Winfrey asked her employees to sign a pledge against cell phone usage in cars. While, Maria Shriver was busted over her cell phone usage --caught not once, not twice, but THREE times talking on her cell phone while driving. Maria’s husband – Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of Cali… Continue

The Family Driving Vacation is Alive and Well, with an Assist from High Tech

Who doesn’t have fond memories of family road trips - those landmarks of childhood fun and adventure? It’s a fine American tradition, and parents today are continuing it -- fueled, in part by the current economy.

(Yes, cost-effective family driving trips are experiencing a strong revival. It’s generally cheaper for a family of 4 to drive to a relatively close vacation destination, than buy 4 plane tickets to a more distant mecca. Plus, there are lots of sites to be seen along the way.)… Continue

AAA offers new test and advice for drivers over 65 years of age

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), by 2020, there will be more than 40 million licensed drivers ages 65 and older. Today, seniors have the highest crash death rate per mile of all drivers, except teenagers. Senior crash fatality rates have climbed while overall fatality rates for all ages combined have remained stable since 1991.

Even though seniors are more likely to wear their seatbelts, less likely to drink and drive, and less likely to speed, they are more like… Continue

The Mazda 6 is a fine car if you're looking for a mid-size family sedan. The Mazda 6 is a fine car if you're looking for a mid-size family sedan. The V-6 is strong and smooth, the six-speed automatic selects gears smartly and without drama, and the ride is comfortable without being flaccid. Mazda also has the best-looking car in the segment with those dynamic, shapely fenders. Yet, when Mazda enlarged their American-market mid-sizer for the 2009 model year, they lost the biggest thing they had going for them: a car that supported their uniquely sporty image. Unlike the engaging Mazda 3, the 6 doesn't have that nimble, faster-than-it-actually-is feel.

Spring Break(Down): An end-of-winter celebration on four wheels. The whole notion of heading to sunny Daytona Beach, Florida, on spring break never appealed to me, not even when I was in college in the cold, gray Northeast. The all-night parties, bad dancing, and inordinate amount of vomiting wasn't my idea of a good time. I much preferred my springtime stimulation in vehicular form. You know - jumping cars over enormous frost heaves. And perfecting rally-style e-brake turns through snow-covered hairpins. And seeing if I could get my brake rotors to glow white by the bottom of a badly paved, tree-lined downhill section of my favorite back road.

Meet the Fiesta's Older Sibling If you have a pulse and access to the Internet these days (the latter doesn't always require the former), you've probably been exposed quite a bit to the Ford Fiesta. The little Ford has been all over Youtube, Twitter, and (shameless plug alert) our own web site. But the Fiesta isn't the only hot subcompact launching this summer. No, we're also being introduced to its cute older sibling, the Mazda 2. Back in 2007, Mazda introduced its slick-looking, youth-friendly hatchback on the same B-segment platform that would spawn the Fiesta. It proved a huge hit in Europe, surpassing 100,000 sales in its first year on the market, and was named World Car of the Year for 2008. We liked it enough to conduct a rare European Four Seasons test on one, and called it a "great car for tough times." But until recently, there were no plans for the car to make it to our market, despite the steadily growing demand for budget-friendly subcompacts. Now Mazda, all but cut off from its sugar daddy in Dearborn (Ford still retains an 13.8 percent share), has decided to crash the Fiesta's party by launching the 2 here this summer.

Mazda Customer Reviews on DealerRater

Mazda Owner in Mesa

Over the last 30 years, we have purchased over 160 cars/trucks/suv's between us. This was the most friendly, professional, courteous dealership we have had done business with. Finally a positive car buying experience. We will tell all of our friends.

Mazda Owner in Phoenix

I was referred to Cardinale Way Mazda (CWM) by TrueCar.com. CWM was one of the participating dealers in TrueCar's Lowest Certified Price program. The program allows you to get a guaranteed price of the vehicle before heading to the dealership. Ken Arment was our salesperson and he did a fantastic job. After registering with TrueCar.com, he promptly called to arrange an appointment. At the deal... more
