Mazda Road Tests and Reviews

2010 Mazda Tribute - Tribute Hybrid Bottom Line

The 2010 Mazda Tribute and Tribute Hybrid are low-volume crossovers that pose a bit of a puzzle. Ford has built them for Mazda since 2001 on its now-aging-but continually updated-Escape and Escape Hybrid platform (also used for the Mercury Mariner and Mariner Hybrid). Redesigned for 2008 and fitted with vastly better engines and transmissions for...

Depressed Sales Could Hurt Dealer Service Business For Years

The depressed auto sales trend that began back in 2008 is going to leave some lingering effects, affecting the service department business of new-car dealerships for many years. So predicts J.D Power and Associates—that dealer service traffic will decline by 20 percent between 2009 and 2013, with a 25-percent drop in service dollars from...

Consumer Reports' 2010 Top Picks...And How TCC Rates Them

Consumer Reports, the widely respected magazine from the non-profit Consumers Union, has published their annual list of Top Picks, and although Toyota might be maligned in the press due to the current accelerator-related recall hearings, the automaker still has two vehicles (including one Lexus) on the list. Six of the ten models—the 2010...

One Month Later: How The Auto Industry Has Helped Haiti

Exactly one month ago, on January 12, an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter Scale devastated the city of Port au Prince and other parts of Haiti, resulting in at least 212,000 deaths. Almost immediately, support began pouring in from individuals, governments, and corporations around the globe -- including the auto industry. We were curious...

Do You Eat While You Drive? Forget Cholesterol! Another Reason Why Burgers May Be Killing You!

Raise your hands now and tell the truth! Who doesn’t eat while driving! But, experts say eating while driving can be hazardous to your health – a recipe for disaster!

According to a 2006 study recently released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, 80% of crashes and 65% of near-crashes involve some form of driver distraction within three seconds before the crash.

Unemployment Up. U.S. Highway Fatalities Down.

There is a downward trend in the number of traffic fatalities nationwide, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that part of the reason for the decrease is the increase in unemployment. Fewer jobs means fewer commuters means fewer accidents during rush hour.

While final figures for 2009 have not yet been released, figures for the first nine months indicated the trend in fewer fatalities was continuing downward. But, even befo… Continue

Surprising Ways to "Go Green," even before you buy your first hybrid.

If you don’t have a hybrid on your shopping list, there are still many cheap and easy ways to Green Your Car:

1. If you have a roof rack you never use, remove it. One consumer compared the gas mileage of his car at 54.7 mph (88 kph) with 1) no roof racks, 2) an empty roof rack, and 3) a mountain bike on the roof rack.

He found that compared to the baseline of no roof rack, the empty rack reduced his MPG by -12.… Continue

Should cell phone usage or texting be a moving violation?

Feelings run high when it comes to the issue of cell phone use and texting while driving. Everyone has an opinion, but we may be light years away from any consensus!

Even the celebrities can’t agree. Oprah Winfrey asked her employees to sign a pledge against cell phone usage in cars. While, Maria Shriver was busted over her cell phone usage --caught not once, not twice, but THREE times talking on her cell phone while driving. Maria’s husband – Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of Cali… Continue

The Family Driving Vacation is Alive and Well, with an Assist from High Tech

Who doesn’t have fond memories of family road trips - those landmarks of childhood fun and adventure? It’s a fine American tradition, and parents today are continuing it -- fueled, in part by the current economy.

(Yes, cost-effective family driving trips are experiencing a strong revival. It’s generally cheaper for a family of 4 to drive to a relatively close vacation destination, than buy 4 plane tickets to a more distant mecca. Plus, there are lots of sites to be seen along the way.)… Continue

AAA offers new test and advice for drivers over 65 years of age

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), by 2020, there will be more than 40 million licensed drivers ages 65 and older. Today, seniors have the highest crash death rate per mile of all drivers, except teenagers. Senior crash fatality rates have climbed while overall fatality rates for all ages combined have remained stable since 1991.

Even though seniors are more likely to wear their seatbelts, less likely to drink and drive, and less likely to speed, they are more like… Continue

He new that we where not happy with the initial deal and went bat for us to get us where we neede to be. My wife went i nt eh dealership a day ahead with my daughter and just inquired about the car, so i hope that Steve gets all commision since he was the one who did all the work... more

Steve is the reason we chose to come back to Cardinale Way. He is very professional with just the right sense of humor. He gave me the space I needed and did not hound me with 2-3 phone calls everyday. We refused to do business with 2 other dealerships because of this problem. Steve listened to me the others did not. They lost the sale. We felt the price we were given by Diego on our trade ins... more

Mazda Owner in Queen Creek

The first day I went shopping for a new car I stopped by Cardinale Mazda to test drive a new CX-7. I really liked it, but still had some other vehicles I wanted to test drive. After negotiating for a while, I decided to not purchase the vehicle. I went to test drive a Honda CR-V, and although I liked it and some of the features that were different than the Mazda, I still preferred the CX-7. The ne... more

Excellent Service. Was not a high pressure situation, which I cannot stand. Would recommend this dealership to anyone. Staff was extremely easy to work with, and Dustin, the salesman, even drove to my work to drop off and pick up some paperwork the next day.
